An Outline of an Event-driven Spatial Data Structure for Managing Time-varying Maps

چکیده
Traditional cartography, when managing change in the real world being mapped naturally turned to the time-slice concept: “This is what the real world looked like at date X”. Computer based replacements for manual techniques used the same approach. The reasons for preserving the time-slice mode! were partly for compatibility with previous operations, and partly because the computer methodologies were inherently batch-oriented. In other words, any modification to a polygon-based map, for example. required the complete reconstruction of the topology the linkages between polygons, arcs and nodes: the technology had to recommence with detecting all line intersections. and then rebuilding a!! the polygons. More recently, this time-slice approach has been questioned, especially when a complete history of all changes is required, for example in historical atlases or in the mapping of forest harvesting operations, or whenever a request is made to retrieve the information about the real-world situation at an time of interest. This requires that the spatial data base preserve date-stamped events, and the spatial relations among map objects at any past time. This paper addresses the issue of maintaining a history of topological events those spatial occurrences that change the spatial adjacency relationships among t h e map objects. The concept of a topological event is based on the incremental (as opposed to the batch) mode! of topology construction, where the temporal sequence of the actions of the cartographer’s pen is reproduced in the building of the topological mesh. This is not considered feasible with the usual line intersection model of space, but has been developed with the Voronoi spatial model. The maintenance of a history of topological events then becomes a question of recording each topological update and its time of occurrence. together with the linkages back to the unchanged portion of the map. The management of the history of the modification of the map o b j e c t s (e.g. line segments) may be done with the usual data base methods.

Designing and Implementing an Asthma Management System Based on Air Pollution Data
Introduction: Asthma is an untreatable but manageable disease that has increased dramatically during the last fifty years due to contamination of the surrounding environment with triggers such as air pollution and has become one of the common chronic diseases throughout the world. Researchers consider allergies and environmental stimuli to be one of the essential components of asthma management...
متن کاملOnline Monitoring for Industrial Processes Quality Control Using Time Varying Parameter Model
A novel data-driven soft sensor is designed for online product quality prediction and control performance modification in industrial units. A combined approach of time variable parameter (TVP) model, dynamic auto regressive exogenous variable (DARX) algorithm, nonlinear correlation analysis and criterion-based elimination method is introduced in this work. The soft sensor performance validation...
متن کاملSpatial Varying Coefficient Regression Model For Relative Risk Factors of Esophageal Cancer Patients
In conventional methods for spatial survival data modeling, it is often assumed that the coefficients of explanatory variables in different regions have a constant effect on survival time. Usually, the spatial correlation of data through a random effect is also included in the model. But in many practical issues, the factors affecting survival time do not have the same effects in different regi...
متن کاملAssessment of geostatistical and interpolation methods for mapping forest dieback intensity in Zagros forests
During recent years, oak decline has been widely spread across Brant’s oak (Quercus Brantii Lindl.) stands in the Zagros Mountains, Western Iran, which caused large-area forest dieback in several sites. Mapping the intensity and spatial distribution of forest dieback is essential for developing management and control strategies. This study evaluated a range of geostatistical and interpolation m...
متن کاملDeveloping a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information
With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...
